Raymond Poon to challenge for WBC Youth Inter-Continental Title on New Year Eve

DEF Promotions is glad to announce the next challenge for our professional boxer Raymond Poon (6-1, 3KOs). The 22-year-old prospect is aiming to compete for the vacant WBC Light Flyweight Youth Inter-Continental Championship on 31 Dec 2018.

Since making his professional debut in May 2016, Raymond’s current record stands at 6 victories and 1 defeat. In his most recent fight in July this year, he defeated Japanese boxer Ryo Narizuka to be crowned the WBC ABCO Light Flyweight Continental Title and the ABF Light Flyweight Title. His outstanding performances resulted in him capturing the attention of the WBC, and in turn offering him a chance to clinch their Youth Inter-Continental Title. It is worth noting that Raymond will fight in the undercard of a World Title event for the first time, bringing his pro career to the world’s top level.

The event, co-hosted by DEF Promotions, TBS and Watanabe Boxing Gym, will feature two magnificent World Title fights. Kazuto Ioka (23-1, 13KOs) and Donnie Nietes (41-1-5, 23KOs), both former world titleholders in three different weight classes, will compete for the vacant WBO Super Flyweight World Title. Ioka is aiming to become the first boxer from Japan to be a world champion in four different weight classes.

For the other main event of the evening, Hiroto Kyoguchi(11-0, 8KOs) will face the current WBA Light Flyweight “Super” World titleholder Hekkie Budler (32-3, 10KOs). Last year, Kyoguichi became the fastest Japanese boxer to win a world title in just 15 months by capturing the IBF Minimumweight World Title.

Raymond is currently training in Watanabe Gym Tokyo, home to numerous World Champions including Hiroto Kyoguchi. The most updated training news is available on his Facebook page “潘啟情Raymond Poon”
